In 1987 the East Alabama Medical Center Foundation was established to provide for the continued support of the mission of East Alabama Medical Center. The Foundation has supported East Alabama Medical Center with several capital campaigns the first of which was centered on children in the community. The Pediasaurus unit was opened in December 1988 this major renovation of the pediatric unit was made possible by the support of more than 1000 donors who raised $125,000.

The Foundation of East Alabama Medical Center has continued to support the medical center through several capital campaigns such as the ones to build the Cancer Center which opened in 1992 and Bethany House which opened in 2000.

One of EAMC's special volunteers was John Edwin "Buck" Rice. After "Mr.Buck" passed away, EAMC built a new chapel in his memory. This was funded through donations to the Foundation's Buck Rice Memorial Fund, which was started by Mr. and Mrs. Billy Hitchcock and family. The main-floor chapel, called the Buck Rice Memorial Chapel, was dedicated on April l2, 1989.
